When you employ new staff,
you can’t expect them to hit the ground running. They need a period of time to
find their feet and learn how your business functions and how they, in their
role, fit in with everyone else. A structured induction period may be the best
way to do that so that you standardize the entry for each new employee. While
it might seem extreme, it could have positive implications for your New York
workers compensation insurance.

A new employee in a new
work environment can feel a bit like a fish out of water. No matter how skilled
they may be, or how well qualified for the position they’re entering, chances
are they may not know anyone, they won’t know the culture of the place, and
they won’t know what structures you have in place for work health and safety.
You can set up your staff so that within each section there is someone whose
job it is to be a buddy for new employees. They can be responsible for showing
them around, introducing them, helping them with day-to-day stuff. You should
also have a formal session with the most suitable staff member who can brief
them on safety and standard operational procedures.

It’s worth taking time
with this. The faster new people can adjust and learn your workplace, the less
disruption there is to productivity. The faster they’re made aware of your
safety policies and practices, the less risk there is that they’ll be involved
in any mishaps that may end up with you needing to claim on your New York
workers compensation insurance.
