Use your communications strategies to facilitate positive workers’ compensation claim outcomes

Category: Our Blog

Workers’ compensation
is one of the vitally important forms of coverage that a business can have –
for the benefit of both the business owner and the employees it is designed to
protect. However, working through a claim can be a complex process.

Compensation insurance
claims can range from simple injury claims – which can be reasonably
straightforward – to stress related claims that might have resulted from
bullying or other workplace issues.  The
latter can become difficult, lengthy and contentious. Ultimately, what is
required is a process that can achieve an acceptable outcome for all concerned.
However, often, in a highly emotive situation this goal can get sidelined by
the need people may have to push a grievance and make someone else pay.

The solution is to
maintain clear lines of communication. When someone is hurting, they need to be
heard. From the outset, you need to have established channels via which people
can bring a grievance to the table. In some cases, if you have created a
culture in your business where people feel empowered to speak up, you may be
able to resolve issues before they turn into stress claims.

You must have workers’
compensation coverage for your New York-based business if you have employees.
Ultimately, you don’t want to have to use it. Hopefully, you have instituted
functional work safe practices that contribute to an environment that is safe
for your workers – physically, emotionally and mentally. However, if you do
have to claim, take that culture of communication to the claim process to help
facilitate an acceptable outcome.
