When and how to evaluate your NYC home insurance

Category: Our Blog

For many people, their home is probably the biggest financial investment they’ll make in their lifetime. Therefore, if this applies to you, your NYC home insurance should be well thought out and cover your needs if the home becomes damaged or destroyed. A lot of people purchase homeowners’ insurance, sign the form and pitch the policy in a file drawer thinking everything’s done.

Homes change from year to year. Purchasing new electronics and jewelry or constructing patios and room additions could change coverage needs. This is why it is so important to look over your policy and make policy changes to keep your insurance up to date.

Checking your policy once or twice a year is a good way to stay on top of things. It is even more important to go over your homeowner’s policy before it comes up for renewal. Just looking at the policy may be enough to remind you that some items might not be included such as the new living room furniture or the high-tech camera you bought last spring.

Speak to your agent to see that you are receiving all the discounts you are entitled to. People go to the trouble of installing security systems and forget to ask about insurance discounts. If you have installed fire alarms recently, that may mean a discount as well. A quick call to your agent is all that is needed.

Your NYC home insurance policy is a continual process that needs to be checked a couple of times a year to reflect the changes in your home. Update policy changes with your agent as needed.
