New York Workers Compensation Insurance for Business Owners

Category: Our Blog

When your business gets extra busy, you may need to bring in extra contractors and sub-contractors. Before you do that, you should check on the terms of your New York workers compensation insurance or speak to your agent to see where you stand with contractors on your premises. You should also check in with the contractors themselves to see what kind of coverage they carry.

One of the things you need to consider when you bring outside workers into your premises is that they won’t be familiar with the space. Safety drills and procedures that you have worked on with your regular staff may be second nature to them, but the contractors will need to be thoroughly briefed before they start working. It might be very wise to assign one of your senior staff – someone who is completely familiar with all your safety practices – to be available for the contractors as their main contact person. This staff member could do the briefing, and also troubleshoot along the way to help ensure that all staff and contractors are following safe work protocols.

Keeping everyone safe must be your number one priority. Call your insurance agent as soon as you know when you will have contractors starting work with you so you can discuss the implications for your New York workers compensation insurance.
